gunshot wound/stabbing, trauma Levels I and II Description: Start
dates are not flexible. This is a Level 3 trauma center with STEMI
and stroke receiving capabilities. Stroke interventions are
referred out. The unit consists of 52 beds with 4 trauma bays. The
facility offers 6 fast track beds. There are quick-look triage
areas using ESI. ER holds are intermixed within the ER, and there
are no seclusion rooms for psychiatric patients. Security is housed
in the ER 24/7. On average, 200 patients are treated in the ER per
day. Medical ratios are 1:5, and fast track ratios are 1:6. Common
patient needs include a wide range of emergency services. Common
drips include ICU gtts, with ICU staff available to assist if
required. ED physicians and mid-level staff work varied shifts,
with pediatric board-certified staff on duty. There is no charge
nurse on each shift, but a house supervisor can assist. ED techs
with 2 years of experience are available, performing EKG, vitals,
blood draws, and splints. Patient care assistants with less than 2
years of experience perform similar duties. Respiratory therapists
are assigned to the ER 24/7, handling ABGs, nebulization
treatments, vents, and CPAP. Equipment includes Glidescope,
Hamilton, and Phillips vents. RNs must read their own telemetry; a
monitor tech is also available. There is a dedicated CT and X-ray
in the ER, and a transport team is available. RNs will accompany
critical patients. ED techs or RNs will draw labs; there is no
dedicated phlebotomy staff. Shift start times vary, with modified
self-scheduling available. Weekend requirements include 4 weekend
shifts per 4-week block. Holiday requirements typically include 2
of the 5 main holidays or their eves. Floating between locations
can occur and is typically scheduled ahead of time. Navy blue
scrubs are required. Orientation includes one day of NEO, one day
of clinical/EPIC training, and one day on the floor. Cancellations
can be equivalent to the weekly guaranteed hours for a 13-week
assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. A Bachelor's degree
in nursing is not required.
